E115 (upper or single oven) and E215 (lower oven) flag a cavity that is too hot with the door unlocked. The manual offers no owner fix.
Model compatibility: Bosch reuses codes across series and model years, so E115 / E215 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
The cavity temperature is too high while the door is unlocked: E115 for the upper or single oven, E215 for the lower oven.
Meaning in one paragraph
These two codes mean the control saw too much heat in the cavity with the door unlocked. Cavity 1, the upper or only oven, reports E115; cavity 2, the lower oven of a double, reports E215. Both sit in the service manual that Bosch issued for its 2007 Series 300, 500 and 800 built-in ovens, and that manual supplies a one-line description with no cause and no test.
Why the latch is part of it
Self-clean locks the door with a motorized latch, and Bosch’s manual says that latch releases only when the interior has fallen to about 490°F. Two facts are watched at once, how hot the cavity is and whether the latch is locked, and E115 or E215 is the mismatch the control will not accept: high heat, latch open. The manual does not blame a particular component. Finding out whether the sensor reading, the latch or the heating is wrong is the technician’s job.
Immediate steps
Turn the oven off, and do not open the door: at head height, a blast of heat comes out of a very hot wall oven.
Children and pets should be kept away from the door while it cools.
When in doubt about whether heating has stopped, the breaker is the sure way to cut it.
Once cold, no self-clean and no high-heat modes until someone has inspected it.
Technician notes
The manual has no test for this code. Likely suspects are the cavity sensor and the switches in the latch, which both connect back to the control module. Two procedures elsewhere in the manual cover them: resistance of the sensor on an ohmmeter, and driving the latch from Service Mode.
Codes worth comparing
E101 / E201: sensor circuit reading open in the cavity
E126 / E226: latch state the control cannot define
E107 / E207: a door that stays locked once cleaning ends
