Hot electronics stopped the whole cooktop. Bosch says zones come back after cooling and a touch of any control.
Model compatibility: Bosch reuses codes across series and model years, so F4 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
F4 means the electronics have overheated and every cooking zone has been switched off.
What sets F4 apart
Bosch gives F4 its own line on the electric cooktop list: the electronics overheated and all cooking zones switched off. F2 differs because only the corresponding zone goes dark there.
The cooktop stops as a whole
An F4 on an electric cooktop means the entire surface stops heating, including zones you did not use. Pans stay hot for a while, so put them on a trivet or the counter instead of leaving them where they were.
Restart order
Let the electronics cool enough first.
Touch any one control element.
When F4 has gone from the display, set the zones and cook again.
Bosch’s electric list has no breaker reset and no service call for F4. Cooling is the whole owner fix.
Induction and ignition wording
Cooktop type changes the description. For induction, Bosch merges F4 into an entry with F2, E7015, E8207 and E8208, where the corresponding cooking zone switches off. A different note on the cooktop page names F2, F4 or F5 for an automatic ignition that fails; Bosch advises turning all burners off, or using the lowest power, until the electronics have cooled.
Know when to stop resetting
An F4 that goes away after cooling matches Bosch’s description. One that shows on a cold cooktop, or does not clear after a wait, does not. Stop using the cooktop then and have it checked.
Related cooktop codes
F2 is the same overheating with just one zone off.
