The drain pump is obstructed. Clean the drain hose and pipe, then service the pump as the manual says.
Model compatibility: Bosch reuses codes across series and model years, so E:00-18 may mean something different on another appliance or generation. Confirm this against your model’s documentation and record your full model number before acting.
Plain language
What this code means
Bosch lists the drain pump as blocked (obstructed).
On newer Bosch washer displays, a drain-pump problem reads E:00-18. Bosch keeps the meaning brief: the pump is blocked. Something is preventing it from pushing the water out, so the water stays in the drum.
Order of work from Bosch
Clean the washer’s drain hose and, or, the drain pipe that it empties into.
If the code is still there, do pump maintenance following your owner’s manual, so the blockage is cleared.
Washer pump or house plumbing?
The WAT28400UC manual offers a way to tell. A pump that needs cleaning is one you cannot hear working while the washer should be draining, yet the other drains in the home, a sink for example, empty without trouble. A sink that is slow as well suggests that the household plumbing is the problem, not the washer.
What gets into the pump
The manual blames loose debris left inside the drum first. Fabrics that shed lots of fluff can also clog the pump. For this reason Bosch advises looking over the drum after every load and removing whatever you can see.
Pump maintenance on the WAT28400UC
The pump is under a service cover.
Before you open it, run a Drain program once, close the water tap, switch the washer off and pull the plug.
Up to 5.3 gallons (20 liters) can need draining through the small emergency hose, so keep a container ready.
Unscrew the pump cover and take out what is inside. Check that the impeller turns.
Screw the cover on tightly again with its handle standing vertical.
Other models may be different, so use the manual for yours. Bosch also cautions about draining hot water during this job.
Other drain codes
E:36-25 / E:38-25: a blocked pump under another code family, with a longer step list.
E18 / F18: the older drain fault, which covers hose and siphon cleaning.
E:30-80 / E:36-10: also takes in a drain hose that is kinked or fitted too high.
